National Night Out

National Night Out is tomorrow night, August 7. I’ve heard via word of mouth that the Westover Hills Neighborhood will have a NNO event- if anyone has more specific details, we’ll gladly put them up. The same goes for any other southside neighborhoods holding NNO events.

31st Street shooting

NBC12 and the T-D are reporting a shooting in the 200 Block of West 31st St that has left a 16 year old with gunshot wounds in the face. Another teen has been arrested in connection.

A man was shot to death on Dundee Ave last night. The T-D has details on the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting.

The Westover Hills Library Advisory Group invites you to join them at their next meeting, Saturday, September 8th at 9:00AM. The Group is a volunteer 501 (c )(3) organization of dedicated individuals which helps promote wider use of the library’s literary and lifelong learning resources.

Food & Beverage update

A little birdie tells me that Maldini’s Ristorante will be offering delivery to the immediate area. Look for a Richmond.com blurb on them shortly.

On the beverage front, the much anticipated Stratford Hills location of Once Upon a Vine is nearing. ABC permits have been posted for quite some time now, and while no official date has been announced, folks at the Bellevue location say it won’t be long now.

Scoot Richmond, the artists formerly known as SCOMO, are presenting “Bike-In Theatre” tonight at their W. 7th Street showroom (just up the street from Legend). In addition to a screening of “Empire Records” they’ll be providing a grill, ice & condiments for your food & beverage needs.

New Trees for Forest Hill Ave

The City of Richmond, the Westover Hills Merchants’ Association and the Westover Hills Neighborhood Association will be replacing the trees along Forest Hill over the next month.

Police Dept. Problem Solving Training

The 2nd and 3rd Police Precincts will be offering their Problem Solving Training workshops in the coming weeks. 3rd Precinct will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 8AM-2PM at Lucille Brown Middle School. 2nd Precinct will be Saturday, Oct. 13 8AM-2PM at Boushall Middle. Past workshops have focused on collaborations between police, communities, and other city agencies to prevent and reduce crime.

Increased police presence

The T-D is reporting that Richmond Police will be more visible in the area following a couple of armed attacks over the last few days.

A knife-wielding man attacked a woman early Sunday evening in the front yard of her home in the 4600 block of Sylvan Road. A man with a gun robbed a woman Monday night as she arrived home from work and got out of her car near Forest Hill Avenue and Peterborough Road.

Safe Communities Festival

Richmond Public Schools will hold the “RPS Safe Schools: Safe Communities Festival” today, Aug. 30, from 3–7PM in the parking lot of the Southside Plaza Shopping Center.Entertainment, RPS drum lines, health screenings, food vendors, face painting, clowns, balloons, school safety tips from Richmond City school and police officials, kids moonwalk and area radio station personalities are among the attractions. Teen R&B vocalist Imani is also scheduled to perform.

Many of the Southside Plaza merchants will be offering store discounts to those who attend the festival.

RPD is conducting a sector-by-sector survey to identify and address issues in local neighborhoods. Your neighborhood association may already have copies of the survey forms, which can be downloaded here in PDF format or you can take the online form version created by the fine folks at PharrOut.

RPD meetings with each sector will soon follow.
